Major USA Contract Award for Mettis
April 2006

Teleflex Aerospace Manufacturing Group (TAMG) has selected Mettis Aerospace to be its exclusive supplier of aluminium outlet guide vanes in a multi-million Pound back-to-back deal with GE Aircraft Engines.

The 5-year contract encompasses a range of purpose designed, precision-forged aluminium vanes which are used to direct the flow of air exiting the fan cases on large turbo fan aero engines. The OGV assembly forms part of a load bearing structure within the fan case.

This latest win includes a newly designed vane for the GEnx engine. The GEnx engine is being developed for Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner aircraft as well as for the new Airbus A350. GEnx has also been selected for the Boeing 747-8 aircraft.

Vanes will also be supplied for the GE90-115B and GP7200. The former is the most recent derivative of the GE90 and is the sole power plant for Boeing's longer range 777-300 ER and 777-200 LR aircraft. The GP7200 is derived from two of the most successful wide body engine programs in history - the GE90 and PW4000 families. The Engine Alliance is offering the GP7200 for the Airbus A380 passenger and freighter configurations.

TAMG President Michel Petit commented: "Mettis has a proven and reliable capability. This factor, combined with their team of highly competent people, and our confidence in their customer support were key influences in our decision. Mettis Aerospace and Teleflex have a longstanding relationship and have worked together to design the optimum supply chain recognising challenges of today's aluminium market, the anticipated volume growth over the coming years, the manufacturing cost targets and not least the design and metallurgical requirements set out by GEAE."

Teleflex Aerospace is part of the $2 billion Teleflex Group and specialises in the manufacture of rotating and structural parts for aero-engines.

Archie MacPherson, Managing Director of Mettis Aerospace, commented: "We are delighted to have won this prestigious contract as it follows our strategy of providing a global service to the major players in the aerospace industry. We look forward to the tremendous growth opportunity that this award brings to us on new generation engines from GE Aircraft Engines and we will continue to work with Teleflex to further improve product performance and cost of ownership. Teleflex has a world class reputation for the machining of aerofoils products and we feel our partnership on these projects will ensure we deliver the highest level of performance possible to GEAE."
